The importance of having the right footwear for riding cannot be underestimated, therefore must be comfortable and practical. The hold the rider has on the stirrups is also an important factor to consider in riding footwear – always wear footwear with heels so that your feet are not constantly slipping off.
Wearing the correct footwear is very important for your safety. Remember, horses are much heavier than they look, and they can be a little clumsy. They don’t always look where they are putting their hooves and if they tread on your foot, they can easily break a bone! Therefore, look for boots with a reinforced toecap.
Your ankles can also be vulnerable, therefore, it is a good idea to opt for riding boots which completely cover your ankle to provide greater protection.
